Six months at Silverspin: what I’ve learned so far

Six months ago, I joined Silverspin as a Talent Acquisition & Admin Executive after working as an agency recruiter. Moving in-house and into a completely different industry, was a big change. The pace, the priorities, and even the way teams work together all felt new. It’s been a crash course in adapting, unlearning, and figuring things out on the fly. Here are six lessons that have stood out so far
Lesson 1: Growth isn’t neat
I imagined my learning curve would be clear and structured. It wasn’t. Some days I felt on top of things, other days I was scrambling to figure it all out. The messy bits turned out to be the most useful, because they pushed me to adjust quickly and keep moving forward.

Lesson 2: Talent makes the difference
Hiring isn’t just about filling a role, it’s about finding the people who raise the game for everyone around them. Being on the inside gave me a much better sense of what kind of person really clicks here .. not just on paper, but in the culture.
Lesson 3: Culture matters more than perks
Snacks and socials are fun, but the real culture shows up when things get tough. At Silverspin, it’s about respect and openness. If my manager’s busy, I can go straight to theirs and still be heard. That kind of accessibility makes a huge difference.

Lesson 4: Adaptability wins every time
Things move fast. Really fast. You have to think on your feet, make calls quickly, and back yourself even when you’re not 100% sure. It’s uncomfortable at first, but it’s the best way to learn.
Lesson 5: The first six months set the tone
I didn’t show up with all the answers (and still don’t), but I’ve learned a ton in a short time. Feedback, support, and a fair amount of trial and error have made me a lot more confident. It’s not about getting everything right, it’s about building the foundations.
Lesson 6: Celebrate progress
Big milestones are great, but the smaller wins matter just as much. Finishing a tricky task, picking up a new process, helping a colleague - those little moments add up and remind you that you’re moving forward.
Six months in, I can honestly say changing industries was the right move. If you’re thinking about stepping into gaming for the first time, know this: you don’t need to have all the answers on day one. What matters is curiosity, adaptability, and being open to learning as you go. The rest, you’ll pick up faster than you think.
And this is just the beginning. I’m excited to keep learning, keep building, and see what the next chapter at Silverspin brings. If the first six months are anything to go by, it’s going to be an interesting ride.
