Head of QA

Position Overview
We are seeking a strategic and results-oriented Head of Quality Assurance (QA). This role combines deep quality assurance expertise with strong project management skills to ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable software products on time and within scope. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and brings a structured, process-driven approach to quality and delivery.
This role also requires working in a matrix management structure, overseeing QA engineers embedded within Scrum teams, and ensuring strong alignment across teams around delivery standards, KPIs, and testing excellence. Travel is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and drive the overall QA vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with business goals.
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing QA team across multiple product lines and scrum teams.
- Foster a culture of quality ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Plan and manage QA activities as structured projects with clear timelines, deliverables, and resources.
- Coordinate efforts across teams for cross-functional or cross-team initiatives.
- Collaborate with different departments such as Product, Development, and Service Delivery to align initiatives with business, product and tech goals.
- Use project management best practices and tools to track risks, progress, and delivery
- Own and manage the organization-wide Test Strategy, including compliance, gap analysis, and implementation of continuous improvements.
- Work closely with Product Owners to ensure strong acceptance criteria in user stories as part of CI/CD and automation goals.
- Lead the development and execution of automated testing strategies across all levels (unit, integration, system, performance).
- Advance deployment strategies such as canary releases to improve production rollout quality.
- Enhance automated release processes and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
- Champion the use and understanding of DORA metrics and Availability metrics to guide performance and stability improvements.
- Partner with development and service delivery teams to drive improvements in lead time, change failure rate, and system reliability.
- Collaborate with Incident and Problem Management teams to enhance observability, aiming to reduce Mean Time To Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time To Restore (MTTR).
- Define, track, and communicate KPIs around quality, test coverage, and release health across the organization.
- Provide matrix management over QA engineers within Scrum teams.
- Ensure consistent ways of working, alignment on goals, and continuous professional development.

Requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong analytical skills to identify issues, assess situations, and develop innovative solutions
- Ability to make informed decisions quickly and effectively, balancing technical and business considerations
- Flexibility to navigate and adapt to changing technologies, priorities, and business needs
- Capability to support the professional growth and development of team members through coaching and mentorship.
- Experience in software QA, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role
- Demonstrated experience managing QA in Agile and CI/CD environments
- Strong project management skills; capable of leading and delivering cross-team initiatives
- Deep familiarity with DORA metrics, service availability metrics, and observability tools
- Experience with testing frameworks (e.g., junit, cucumber, springboot test, playwright, percy visual testing, rest assured), CI/CD tools (e.g., Gitlab runners), deployment strategies (e.g., canary, blue/green) and performance testing (e.g. using grafana K6)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
